It's a bit different from our usual post. I'm moving to different city from where I am today. (By the time this post goes up, I might be on an airplane!) So, I've been having a hectic week and I know this is an excuse haha Today, I'd love to share about my love for film photography.
今日はいつもと少し違った記事。実は、今日カナダの違うシティに引っ越しなの！今ごろ飛行機の中かも？なので、ここ最近忙しくバタバタしていて、ゆっくりと記事を書けなかったので、言い訳ながら今日はあたしの大好きなフィルム写真について話そうと思うの。
Past few years, especially recently, film photography seems becoming very popular. I don't know when exactly it became popular or maybe, it was always popular without me noticing it. Many people share their film photography of music festivals, concerts, travels, museums, beaches, sunsets, and life.
ここ数年、特に最近、フィルム写真ってすごく流行ってるよね。いつ急に流行り始めたのか、それともあたしが気づかないだけで、実はずっと人気だったのかわからないけど、最近たくさんの人がインスタやブログでフィルム写真を更新してるのをよく見るの。例えば、ミュージックフェスティバル、コンサート、旅行、博物館、ビーチ、夕焼け、それか日常生活。
I grew up with film photographs. My parents always brought around film cameras along with digital camera and old video recorder everywhere we go. And when we went to family trip to somewhere, my parents always bought disposable cameras for me and my sister to take our own pictures. I guess kids views are different from what adults see, right? So we captured everything we wanted. Obviously, sometimes there is my finger in it. I always enjoyed having my own disposable camera around.
あたしは子供の頃からフィルム写真に囲まれてた。あたしの両親はいつもデジカメと古いビデオレコーダーと一緒にフィルムカメラも持ち歩いていたのを覚えてる。家族旅行に行くときは、両親があたしと妹用に使い捨てフィルムカメラをもたせてくれて、あたしたちはいつも自分たち、子供の目線で見える、撮りたいものを撮ってた。もちろん、たまに自分の指が写りこんでたり。あたしはいつも使い捨てフィルムカメラを使って何かを撮るのが大好きだったの！
As I grow up, I always have a huge love towards photography. I love photography even though I’m not satisfying with my skill or knowledge. After years later, I bought my own film camera on Amazon when I was in school in the U.S. in 2014. It was an used cheap Olympus Stylus Zoom. I saw my favorite blogger Zoe Suen was using the camera, and I gave it a try. I’ll share some of my pictures I took with the camera.
成長するにつれて、写真への興味が消えることはなく、いつもカメラを持ち歩いてた。別に知識やスキルがあるわけではないけれど。何年か越しに、2014年にアメリカの大学に編入学した時に、アマゾンで中古の安いOlympus Stylus Zoomを買ったの。使い捨てじゃなくて、初めての自分のフィルムカメラ！あたしの好きなブロガーZoe Suen(ゾーイ・スーエン)が使ってたのを見て、同じものを買ったの。これがそのカメラで撮った写真たち。
However, I lost the camera in summer 2015 at the music festival in Ottawa, Canada. The film is gone. I’ll never be able to remember and see what I captured. I hope someone found the camera and developed it. And that’s one of the best part of film photography.
でも、2015年の夏にカナダ・オタワでミュージックフェスティバルに行ったときにそのカメラをなくしちゃったの。そのフィルムで撮った写真はなんだったのか、どんなものを撮ったのか、覚えてないし、見ることもできない。誰かがそのカメラを見つけて、現像してくれたらいいななんて願ってる :) でも、これもフィルム写真のいいところだって思ってる。
You won’t be able to see what you’ve captured until you develop them. Waiting can be frustrated most of the time but not for film photographs. It always excites me to see how they turn out. And film photographs are always unique like people. It’ll never be the same. There can be a little dust, a scratched scar, lighting effects, or high/low exposure.
現像するまで、自分が実際何を撮ったのかは見れないところ。いつもだいたい何にしろ『待つ』っていうことってモヤモヤしたりするけど、フィルム写真に関しては違うな、と思う。いつもどんな風に撮れたんだろうってわくわくしたり、そわそわする。待ってる時間も楽しい。フィルム写真って十人十色みたいで、同じ時間に同じ場所で撮ったとしても、絶対全く同じには写らない。例えば、小さなホコリや傷だったり、明るさが違ったり、エフェクトがかかってたり。

Maybe professional film photographer will know how they turn out, but I’m an amateur and I’m just taking them for fun. And I’ll never be able to expect what’s coming and it’s almost magical to me to open the envelope and see the pictures that it’s developed.
きっとプロのフィルムフォトグラファーはだいたい予想できちゃうのかもしれないけど、あたしはただの趣味で自己満足だから、その待っている間も『どんな風になるかな～』って楽しめるんだと思う。あたしは何も予想することができないし、いつも現像が終わったものをピックアップして、その封筒を開けるのが魔法みたいでわくわくする！
After I lost my very first film camera, I bought the exactly same one again. And I broke it somehow. Since then, I’ve been using disposable camera which is not ideal for me but I wanna capture many things in my daily life with films so until I find a good film camera, I’ll keep using disposable cameras.
最初のフィルムカメラをなくしてから、また同じのを買ったの。だけど、それはすぐに壊れちゃって、それからフィルムカメラを買ってない。その代わりに今は理想的ではないのだけれど、使い捨てフィルムカメラを常に持つようにしてる。だって日常生活でたくさん『これ撮りたい！』って思う瞬間があるの。今は、ちゃんとしたいいフィルムカメラが欲しいからそれまでは使い捨てでいいやって思ってる。
Last time when I went back to Japan in summer 2016, I carried around disposable camera everywhere I went, and ended up I used three disposable cameras in three weeks of staying. Not only me but also my sister and my friends had them too so we’ve got many film photographs from my trip in Japan. And after I left Japan, my sister sent me the photos that were developed and that made me feel like going back to the time I was in Japan, and that’s another good part of film photography.
去年の夏に日本に帰ったときは、写ルンですを持ち歩いてた！結局３週間の滞在の間に、３つの写ルンですを使ったの。あたしだけじゃなくて、あたしの妹や友達も写ルンですを持ち歩いてたからその旅では、たくさんのフィルム写真があるから少しシェアするね。日本を去ったあとに、妹が現像してくれた写真をみて、また日本に戻った気分になって、それもフィルム写真のいいところだなあ、と思う。待って、見返して、浸ったり。
I tend to choose the things that intrigued to me. If you have a digital camera, you can see everything, and retake as much as you want if you don’t like the first picture and it’s even editable right away. And the fact that I can’t see what I captured with films until I develop makes me excited and curious. So, I love film photographs.
あたしは、いつも何にしろ興味深いものに魅かれるの。もしデジカメで撮ったら、すぐに見れて、もし気に入らなかったら、好きなだけ撮り直せて、しかもすぐに編集もできちゃう。だけど、あたしは何も予想できなくて、待ってる間もわくわくする、オリジナルでナチュラルなフィルム写真が大好き。
I have tons of film photos to share so I made an instagram account for only my film photography. @hikfilm This account is a collection of my film photographs and a little stories behind the photo/the person in it.
