2021年に買わないもの
昨年「もう買わない物リスト」と題されたいくつかの記事をnoteで読んだ。わたしにとってものを買わないという選択肢は、サスティナブルな考えに直結する。サスティナブルな生活を心がけるようになってからは、何かを購入するときに「これは本当に必要なものなのか」「思い付きで買っていないだろうか」と、今までより慎重に買い物をするようになった。今はそのような生活が身についてきている。振り返ってみると、今まで「欲しいものリスト」は考えてきたけど、「買わないものリスト」は考えたことがなかった。それに、自分の生活を見直すきっかけにもなる気がするので、今回わたしも挑戦してみようと思う。「もう買わない」ではなく、とりあえず今年限定で考えてみようかなと思ったので、今回はわたしが今年2021年に買わないものをリストアップしていきたいと思う。
Last year, I read a couple of note articles titled "Things that I no longer buy." For me, the choice not to buy things is directly related to sustainable thinking. Since I have been trying to live a sustainable life, I have been more careful about what I buy, asking myself if I really need it and if I am buying something on a whim. That's the kind of life I've learned to live now. In retrospect, I've been thinking about a "wish list" for a while now, but I've never thought about a "do not buy list." I think it will give me a chance to reevaluate my life, so I'm going to give it a try. I thought I'd consider it for this year only instead of "not buying it forever". So this time, I'll write about things I will not buy in 2021.
・アクセサリー
一番大きな理由として、今持っているものでしっかり使いまわせているから。ピアスは大学時代に韓国で買ったものと先輩にプレゼントされたものしか使っていないし、リングは普段つけている3つで充分。腕時計は昨年のクリスマスに彼からプレゼントされたデンマーク・コペンハーゲンのNordgreenというブランドのものを使っている。わたしが身につけるアクセサリーは大抵この3種類なので、今持っているもので充分だと感じてる。なので新しいものを必要だとは感じない。
・Accessories
The biggest reason is I can use the ones I have now. The only pierced earrings I use are the ones I bought in Korea when I was a college student and the ones my senior gave me as a gift. I have three rings and they are enough. For a watch, I'm using a Nordgreen’s watch from Copenhagen that my boyfriend gave me for Christmas last year. I don't need to buy any more accessories since I can use the ones I already have since I usually wear these three types.
ここでわたしがなぜNordgreenというブランドを選んだのか説明させて欲しい。今までずっと腕時計が欲しかったけど、どこのブランドのものがいいか決めきれずにいた時にNordgreenを見つけた。始めに書いた通り、わたしは何か買い物をする時は以前より慎重に選ぶようにしているので、今回も購入前にウェブサイトからブランドのストーリーやモットーを確認した。Nordgreenは消費者にデザインの魅力を感じてもらうことの他に、可能な限り品質のよいもの、社会・環境に配慮しているもの、長く使い続けられるものにこだわりを持っていると知った。パッケージや時計本体の素材にこだわっていたり、コペンハーゲンにあるオフィス内でも環境に配慮したシステムを導入している。私は、このブランドのモットーや考え全てに納得をした上で購入を決めた。
Let me explain why I chose the Nordgreen brand. I've been wanting a watch for a long time, but I couldn't decide which brand I wanted to buy, and then I found Nordgreen. As I mentioned in the beginning, I'm more careful when I make purchases, so I checked out the brand's story and motto on their website before making my purchase. I learned that in addition to making design appealing to consumers, Nordgreen is committed to making products that are of the best possible quality, socially and environmentally friendly, and that can be used for a long time. They are particular about the materials used for packaging and the watches themselves, and have also introduced an environmentally friendly system in their office in Copenhagen. I decided to buy a watch after being convinced of the brand's motto and all its ideas.
購入時は、文字盤の色や、ストラップの色・素材を全てカスタマイズして、今の自分にぴったりなデザインに。私服でも仕事でもいろんなシチュエーションに合うからとてもお気に入りで、プレゼントされてからはほぼ毎日身につけている。このようにして、地球環境や消費者のことをしっかりと考えて作られた素晴らしいものを、自分で調べ、考え、選び抜いて購入する、ということ。これは今後、無駄な消費を抑えられる行動にも繋がると思う。慎重に選んだからこそ、ずっと大切にしていきたいと思うし、それ以上のものが見つからないので他のものを購入しようとは思わない。これからもこんな風に、地球にもお財布にも優しい行動を取っていきたいと思う。
When I bought it, I customized all the dial colors and strap colors/materials to make the design perfect for my current look. It goes well with many situations, both personal and work. I love it so much that I have worn it almost every day since it was given to me. I usually wear these three types. In this way, I am able to research, think, select and purchase wonderful products that are made with the global environment and consumers in mind. I believe this will also lead to actions that will reduce wasteful consumption in the future. Because I have chosen carefully, I will cherish them forever, and I will not buy anything else because I cannot find anything better. I would like to continue to act in such a way that is kind to both the earth and my wallet.
・化粧品
わたしはもうずっと化粧品を新調していない。買い足しとしてリキッドファンデーション、アイブロウペンシル、マスカラはごくたまに買ったりするけど、それ以外のアイシャドウやチーク、リップ（3種類）はここ4年くらいずっと同じものを使い続けている。これには2つ理由があって、まずわたしが薄化粧ということ。そして顔の皮膚が弱いので、あまり新しい化粧品にチャレンジするのを好まないということ。それに加えて昨年からコロナの影響でリモートワークが導入されたことで、リモートワークの日は化粧をしなくなったし、マスクをすることでもっと薄化粧になった。リップに関してはほとんど塗っていない。結果、化粧品の消費スピードが今までより遅くなったので、今年は新しいものをほぼ買うことなく1年を過ごせると思う。
・Cosmetics
I haven't bought any new cosmetics in a long time. I buy liquid foundation, eyebrow pencils, and mascara once in a while, but other than that, I've been using the same eyeshadows, blushes, and lip products (three types) for the past four years. There are two reasons for this. Firstly, I usually wear light makeup, and secondly, I don't like to try new cosmetics because I have sensitive skin. On top of that, since I started working remotely last year under the influence of Covid-19, I don't wear makeup on remote work days, and wearing a mask has made me wear even less makeup. As for lipsticks, I hardly apply any. As a result, I've been consuming cosmetics at a slower rate than before. So I think I can go through this year without buying much.
・ペットボトル飲料
これは環境のため。最近はクライアント先へ訪問した時に、コロナの時期ということでペットボトルでお茶をいただくことが多くなった。そんな時は遠慮するのも失礼にあたるのでもらうようにしている。だけど、私生活では普段からマイボトルを持ち歩いているので、外で飲み物を進んで買うことはなくなったし、これからも買わない。
・Plastic bottled beverages
This is for the environment. Recently, when I visit my clients, I often receive tea in plastic bottles because it is Covid-19. In such cases, I try to ask for it because it would be rude to refrain. However, in my personal life, I usually carry my own bottle with me, so I don't willingly buy drinks outside anymore, and I never will.
・コンビニ弁当
大学時代はお昼ご飯として、ほぼ毎日買っていたと思う。社会人になってからは自分でお弁当を作るようになったし、夜ご飯は家で作って食べるか、たまに外食をするかのどちらかなので、コンビニ弁当はほとんど食べなくなった。というわけで、そもそも買う理由がないけど、買わない理由を挙げるなら、食べ終わった後にプラスチック等のゴミが発生してしまうし、お金の無駄だと感じるから。
・Convenience store lunch boxes
When I was a college student, I think I used to buy lunch almost every day. Since I became a social worker, I have started to make my own lunches, and since I either cook dinner at home or eat out occasionally, I rarely eat convenience store lunches anymore. So there is no reason to buy them in the first place, but if I had to give a reason for not buying them, it would be because of the plastic and other garbage that is generated after the meal is over. And because I feel it is a waste of money.
・ヒールのある靴
自分は外反母趾ということもあって、ヒールのある靴を履くとつま先に体重がかかってものすごく痛いし、歩くことに苦痛を感じる。一昨年、仕事用にヒールのある靴を買ったけど、結局はいつも楽なフラットシューズを選んでしまう。（今は、そのヒールの靴は私服に合わせて履いている。）ということもあって、ヒールのある靴はもう買わない。今ある一足で充分。
・Shoes with heels
Because I have big toe bunions, when I wear heeled shoes, I feel a lot of weight on my toes, which hurts and makes walking painful. I bought a pair of heeled shoes for work last year, but I always end up choosing flat shoes. (I wear the heeled shoes with my personal clothes.) So, I don't buy heeled shoes anymore. The ones I have are enough.
・サンダル
これは昨年の記事にも書いた通り、KEENのサンダルを購入したから。ずっと欲しかったということもあって、念願のサンダルを手に入れた満足感が大きいので、これ以外に欲しいものが見つからないし、サンダルは1足あれば充分。KEENのサンダルはデザインが素敵なので、どんなコーディネートにも合から他のサンダルを買う必要はない。
・Sandals
This is because, as I wrote in last year's article, I bought a pair of KEEN's sandals. I can't find anything else that I want because I've been wanting them for a long time, and the satisfaction of getting the sandals I've been longing for is amazing. Besides, one pair of sandals is enough for me, and KEEN's sandals have a great design that goes well with any outfit. So there is no need to buy another pair of sandals.
・コート
これも一昨年、彼からプレゼントされたお気に入りのコートがある。そのコートの他にもデザインが全く違うアウターを持っているし、ダウンジャケットは3着も持っている。この5着があれば冬は必ず耐えられる。だからこれも買う必要はなし！
・Coat
This is also because I have my favorite coat that my boyfriend gave me last year. Besides that coat, I have other outerwear with completely different designs, and I also have three down jackets. With these five pieces, I can surely endure the winter. So, no need to buy this one too.
・ノート
わたしはノートを集めるのが大好きで、「何か書けるかも！」とか「日記用に使おう！」とか「イラスト用に！」とか今までデザインに惹かれたものをたくさん集めてきた。でも結局使わずに部屋の装飾の一部となってしまっているものがほとんど。友達から海外旅行のお土産としてもらったノートや、今までに自分で集めたノートが数えられないくらいあるので、もう買わない。日記はスケジュール帳と兼用にしているから、日記専用のノートを買う必要もない。ただ仕事のメモを取る際にA5サイズのノートは必ず必要なので、それは今後も購入すると思う。
・Notebooks
I love to collect notebooks for writing something in them, or for my diary, or for illustrations! I've collected a lot of notebooks that I was attracted to by their design, but I never use them and they become part of my room decoration without being used. I can't count the number of notebooks I've collected by myself or the ones I've received from friends as souvenirs from overseas trips, so I don't buy them anymore. I don't even need to buy a notebook for my diary because I use it as a schedule book. However, I do need an A5 size notebook for taking notes at work, so I think I will continue to buy that.
以上がわたしの今年買わないものリスト。買わないもの＝自分の生活に必要のないもの、と考えるとパパっと思いつくものも多かったし、逆に譲れないものも多かった。例えば本（小説・雑誌・漫画類）に関しては、今自分の手元にたくさんある。だけど、これからまた新しい本に出会う度に購入してしまうだろうな、と思う。わたしは本を読むことで自分の心を落ち着かせているし、ブックカバーの感触や紙の温かさ、ページをめくる時の高揚感が好き。（なので電子書籍は好まない。）今、手元にある本を何度も読み返すこともできるけど、新しい本から新しい知識を得たり、新しい発見に出会ったり、新しい感情を持ったりすることがある。だから本は譲れない。これは自分の生活に必要なものであるから。
This is my list of things that I will not buy in 2021. When I think of what I won't buy = what I don't need in my life, there are many things that I can think of quickly, but there are also many things that I can't give up. For example, I have a lot of books (novels, magazines, manga, etc.) on hand. But from now on, whenever I come across a new book, I'm sure I'll buy it. I like the feeling of the book cover, the warmth of the paper, and the excitement of turning the pages. I can read the books I have now over and over again, but I can also gain new knowledge, encounter new discoveries, and have new feelings from new books. So books are non-negotiable. Because this is something that I need in my life.
こんな風に買わないものリストを考えていくことで、本当に今自分に必要なものが見えてくる気がする。みんなもこの年始の機会にぜひ、買わないものリストを作ってみて欲しい。きっと自分に本当に必要なものだけが見えてくるはず。
